We’ve all been there. Standing in front of the mirror, combing and caring for that glorious work of art on your face, when something catches your eye. It’s a split end in your beard! Fear not my bearded brethren, I’ve got the knowledge you need to keep that beard of yours in top form. Beard Split Ends: How to treat and Prevent Them is the topic for our discussion in this installment of the Bohemian Brothers Ledger...So let’s get to it, shall we!
EVEN THE BEST OF US EXPERIENCE SPLIT ENDS
First and foremost, it’s important for you to know that split ends are extremely common; we all experience them at one point or another. It’s not the “end of the world.” They’re fairly easy to treat and prevent.
So, if you happen to notice an unusually high number of spit or damaged beard hairs...Just relax. This is an issue you can resolve with relatively little effort. Here’s how:
GETTING LAZY WITH THE BEARD MAINTENANCE CERTAINLY WON’T HELP
The number of beard split ends is directly related to the quality of care you provide for your chin curtain. Take good care of your beard, and you’ll minimize split ends. Skip out on your bearded responsibility, and you’re creating the perfect conditions for split ends to occur. Excessive blow drying, neglecting to use beard oil and/or beard balm regularly, or washing your beard too much or too little will cause the hairs to become dry, weak, and brittle. When this occurs, the follicle will, in turn, begin to spit or break.
Although it’s not possible to repair an already split end, the hair itself can usually be saved. How, you ask? By Trimming. All you have to do is trim the split end off, leaving behind plenty of fresh, healthy follicle.
Next time your barber offers a trim, take him up on the offer. Trimming is an essential part of a good beard care regimen. Instead of worrying about it, embrace it! All hair needs to be trimmed to keep it in top form.
FIND A BEARD CARE ROUTINE THAT WORKS FOR YOUR BEARD
Once your beard care routine has been established, it must be performed daily. Skipping your routine for a day or two here and there isn’t doing your beard any favors. As I mentioned before, once the follicle splits, the only remedy is to trim. Stay ahead of the curve; prevention is your best course of action.
First and foremost, keep your beard clean; wash away dirt and strip away wax(from balm) on a regular basis. Use a good wash, like Bohemian Brothers Beard Wash, every other day to get the job done.
Daily use of a quality beard oil is highly recommended. Apply a few drops after washing to help the skin and hair retain moisture, and provide essential nutrients to promote healthy growth. The healthier your beard the more protection it will provide again daily exposure to the elements.
Take care of your beard, and your beard will take care of you.
